What's One Tree Planted Up To?

At Bark Potty, we’re dedicated to partnering with businesses and nonprofits that share our commitment to sustainability and solutions for remedying the impact that we collectively have on the environment. That’s why we donate 1% of our sales (not profits) to One Tree Planted, an organization that’s focused on global reforestation. With the help of our amazing customers, Bark Potty has been able to contribute to the planting of just under 8,000 trees and counting! Read on to find out more about One Tree Planted’s recent reforestation initiatives and how they’re healing the earth one tree at a time.

From January to April 2021, One Tree Planted planted longleaf pines in the Pine Island area of northeast Texas. This not only aids in the long-term development of a wildlife habitat that sustains the regional ecosystem, it will also help reduce the risk of wildfires.
In June 2021, the planting of 1 million trees began in Australia’s Southwest Western region as a part of a multi-year initiative. The initiative is aimed at conserving the area’s biodiversity, restoring wildlife habitats, and improving the ecological permeability. Aboriginal elders and project participants kicked off the reforestation effort with a blessing gathering by the Noongar, a group of peoples indigenous to southwest Australia.
In Sri Lanka, One Tree Planted is hard at work restoring a lagoon that was damaged during a civil conflict. 20,000 mangrove trees are being planted with the help of the local community to restore the lagoon. Marine biodiversity in the area relies on the complex ecosystem of the mangroves, and humans depend on the mangroves to protect them from rising sea levels and storms.
Most recently, One Tree Planted has begun planting 148,000 trees in Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, located on the island’s Pacific coast. The peninsula is home to the largest forest remaining in Central America. Working with landowners who occupy critical watershed regions, One Tree Planted is planting trees to improve the relationship between the stunning biodiversity of Costa Rica and the local community.
These regions are noted for their biodiversity and cultural importance for local communities. One Tree Planted’s reforestation initiatives have the common goal of sustaining all elements of the environmental regions, including its people and its wildlife.
