Contrary to popular belief, because of the name itself, bulldogs are not stout bullies that push other dogs around. They are known as friendly, courageous and calm dogs which any owner enjoys. However, they definitely are not known for running fast or being athletic. These dogs are in the non-sporting group of canines and they are one of the cutest breeds of their class! Facts about Bulldogs
They may be small in size, but they’re heavier than you think!
Bulldogs are known for their short legs and stocky bodies, but nobody is ever prepared for a “lap-sized” dog that can weigh an upwards of 50 pounds, to jump on them and discover that they’re not as small as they seem.
The name stems from bull-baiting.
Bulldogs get their name from the term bull-baiting. This term is defined by Google as the practice of setting dogs to harass and attack a tethered bull. It was popular as a sport in medieval Europe.
The bulldog originated in the British Isles.
It makes sense that Europeans used bulldogs for bull-baiting which started in Europe, because bulldogs were first found in the British Isles.
