The Yorkshire Terrier

The team at Bark Potty has slowly been chipping away at the top 10 breeds that America has voted for. While you will see great success with our potty patch for dogs, regardless of the breed, each of these dogs has different attributes that make them the lovable companions they are. This week we look beyond the cute face of the Yorkshire terrier and into the unique qualities that make it one of the best breeds to choose from.

Yorkshire terriers were originally bred to hunt rats.

These tiny little dogs were initially bred to as exterminators. Believe it or not, this breed came around mid 1800’s as a means of eliminating rats, mice and other forms of rodents that were commonly found in the coal mines, weavers and various other businesses. It’s their small size that made them the ideal dog for the job!

Their looks can be deceiving.

Because of their size and their precious faces, these pups are quickly fawned over. While they are no doubt one of the cutest canine breeds, their personalities are from butterflies and rainbows. Yorkshire terriers are known for their feisty and sassy moments, but that’s not to say that they don’t have their cute and cuddly moments as well. However, it’s safe to say these dogs can hold their own. Their size doesn’t boast of the fearless attitudes most Yorkshire terriers have.

The smallest dog in history was a Yorkie.

As of today, the smallest dog alive is a long-haired, female Chihuahua named Boo Boo. However, the smallest dog in history, for over 70 years now, is a Yorkie terrier named Sylvia. This tiny pup came in a whopping 4 ounces, measuring in at 2.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches long. If you’re a fan of small dogs, this is definitely a breed to look into. Bark Potty provides the indoor potty patches that dogs, like Yorkshire terriers, need. Using materials that eliminate odor makes our product unlike many on the market. Better yet, we’ll deliver your Bark Potty straight to your front door. We are down to the final three breeds that made it in America’s list of favorite dogs.
